Hey, There’s People Out There!

Posted In: Uncategorized

Okay, well… it’s been a while. A very long while. That’s probably the biggest understatement I’ve made in quite some time.

So what the hell happened?

Well, partly, I was stuck on how exactly to advance the current plot in a way that I liked; that, I sorta solved and have it down to a point where I actually am happy with it (thus why I’m able to chug things along now).

The other, less fun aspect is that life decided to be an utter jackass to me in 2015.

My dog, Lucy, was sick for a long while, and taking care of her took up a lot of time; she finally passed in late August. But, she was 12, and had had medical problems since she was a puppy, so really she lived much, much longer than the vets ever expected her to (she had a small daily regimen of pills to take for things like allergies, intestinal problems, a too-small liver, etc. – she was happy, just pilled up).

Pretty much right after Lucy passed, my mother also started having problems with her heart. In the span of a month, she was in and out of the hospital 3 times. While the doctors have basically gotten things down to manageable levels, and she’s able to move around more, she’s still not in great shape; in fact, she just drove for the first time in four months yesterday.

There were a few other health & life hiccups here and there that just kept adding up which made updating, and often even thinking about updating, impossible.

It hasn’t been all terrible, however: I got to attend the Ottawa International Film Festival with Cinevore Studios while Matt & Stephanie met with studio & television reps; I got to man my first Artist Alley table at Otakon (and I’m going back this year specifically as Bricktown – more on that later!); and I’ve got a few personal projects finally come to pass which I’ll be unleashing to the world soon hopefully.

I’ve also had some client-projects come up that ate up my time (which were pleasant respites from the other problems), which put me off even further.

Now, thankfully, the worst seems to have passed, and I can get some semblance of stability in my life; which means a fairly regular update schedule (yay!).

Here’s to a happy tomorrow!

Swear to God, My Eyelids are Bleeding…

I’m not dead! I kinda feel like it, but I’m not!

So, little background for y’ins: I’m an animator (technically, a storyboard artist and character designer, but that’s my preference – I’ll animate if need-be, but I’m much happier boarding and drawing character designs), and I often work with a filmmaking studio doing graphics, coming up with character designs for ’em, etc.

Well, recently, something has come to light that we decided to jump on like mad. Coupled with a burst of inspiration brought upon by me geeking out at the Legend of Korra finale, I’ve spent the last few weeks popping out non-Bricktown story ideas like mad and coming up with Character designs by the boat-load.

So far, I’ve gotten 7 different ideas for these stories and have drawn… I wanna say… close to 50 character designs.

So, yeah, I’ve been knee-deep in awesome nonsense, but I had to keep pushing off drawing the comics. The good news is I’m done and can get back to drawing the comics. YAY!

The next comic should be up towards the end of this week, or if not by next Sunday.

Let The Love Shine In

I am not too proud to admit that I squeeled and giggled like a schoolgirl twice in less than a week.

The first was during the finale of Legend of Korra, when Asami and Korra held hands and walked into the Spirit Portal.

The second, was just 30 minutes ago, destroyed any ambiguity as to the relationship of Korra and Asami.

Over the past few days I’ve seen visceral reactions to the pairing, as well as tons of lauding. While the majority of the media and fans needed no confirmation to understand that Korra and Asami were lovers and praised the move, there were also quite a few who said “they’re just friends,” “they’re just sisters,” “that’s wrong,” etc.

Now, for those who thought it was ambiguous, considering the show draws heavily from anime in all regards, the hand-holding enough was confirmation right there. Anyone familiar with anime or Japanese culture knows that hand-holding is a BIG deal in Japan, and only lovers would do it.

However, if you were in the camp of Complete Denial without a kiss or declaration from the creators, you now have conformation from the Mouths of God themselves – the creators have said that, without question, Korrasami is canon. And I am on cloud nine.
